Hey, y'all! Welcome to Onyxx Cuisine!

First things first, let me introduce myself.

I'm Imani!!! Brooklyn-born, DC-seasoned, with Jamaican roots, Southern influences, a love for good food, and some BIG dreams!

My story is a beautiful blend of cultures, traditions, and experiences.

My mother is Jamaican, and that Caribbean heritage is at the heart of so much of who I am. From the bold flavors and vibrant traditions to the love, culture, and sense of connection that food represents, my Jamaican roots are a huge part of my identity.

My father's side brings some deep Southern roots of its own. My paternal grandmother made her way from Florida to New York, while my grandfather's family has roots in Roseboro, North Carolina. And with my Trinidadian stepmother having been in my life since I was four, there's been a little Trini influence in the mix, too!

And then there's Brooklyn!

If you know anything about New York City, you know it's a melting pot of cultures, languages, traditions, and, most importantly, FOOD! Growing up surrounded by so many different cultures gave me an appreciation for flavors and culinary traditions far beyond my own family's kitchen.

I've also called Washington, DC, home on and off since high school, and my journey took me to North Carolina A&T State University.

From Brooklyn to the South, DC to the Caribbean, and now exploring flavors from around the world, every place and every experience has helped shape the woman I am and the food I love to create.

And trust me, I LOVE some good food!

But Onyxx Cuisine is about so much more than what's on the plate.

So, Why Did I Start Onyxx Cuisine?

For me, food has always been more than something we eat.

Food is love. Food is culture. Food is comfort. It's family, tradition, celebration, and memories. It's the stories told around the dinner table and those dishes that can transport you right back to your childhood with just one bite.

I've always loved the way food brings people together.

And somewhere along the way, that love grew into a dream of creating something of my own.

The funny thing is, this dream isn't new.

It's been sitting right there at the edge of my bed for years, waiting for me to dive in.

I've thought about it, imagined it, planned it, and probably talked myself in and out of it more times than I can count!

But here's the thing about dreams: at some point, you have to stop imagining what could be and start creating what will be.

And I'm ready.

Ready to learn. Ready to grow. Ready to challenge myself. Ready to take everything I love about food and build something meaningful around it.

That's why I started Onyxx Cuisine.

Not because I have everything figured out, but because I'm finally giving myself permission to begin.

Comfort Food Can Be Healthy, Too!

One thing I truly believe is that delicious food and nourishing food can absolutely exist on the same plate.

I love comfort food. The rich flavors, the familiar dishes, the meals that make you smile before you've even taken your second bite.

But I also believe we can take care of ourselves while enjoying the foods we love.

Healthy eating doesn't have to mean boring, bland, or giving up everything that brings us joy.

Sometimes it's about the ingredients we choose, the way we prepare them, the balance we create, and learning how to make our favorite dishes work for us.

I want people to leave my table feeling satisfied, nourished, and genuinely good about what they've eaten.

That doesn't mean every dish will be low-calorie or every recipe will be a health-food makeover. Sometimes we're celebrating, sometimes we're indulging, and sometimes we're finding new ways to nourish our bodies.

My goal is to celebrate food, not make people afraid of it.

Because I believe good food should feed your body AND your soul.

More Than a Meal. An Experience.

My vision for Onyxx Cuisine is to create memorable culinary experiences that bring together flavor, culture, creativity, and care.

Whether it's a beautifully prepared private dinner, convenient and satisfying meal prep, or a cooking class where we laugh, learn, and get a little messy in the kitchen, I want people to feel the love behind what I do.

I want to take the foods and traditions that shaped me and give them my own creative touch.

A little Caribbean soul. A little Southern comfort. Some Brooklyn attitude. A whole lot of flavor. And inspiration from everywhere life takes me.

I believe food can be elevated without losing its roots, and that a little luxury belongs in everyday life, too.

The Woman Behind the Apron

Now, let me tell you something else about me.

I'm building Onyxx Cuisine while working full-time, pursuing my culinary education, navigating adulthood, and figuring out how to turn years of dreaming into something real.

I'm also on my own health and wellness journey, learning how to create more balance in my life and in my kitchen.

And no, I don't have everything figured out!

There will be experiments, successes, mistakes, lessons, and probably a few moments when I look around my kitchen and ask myself, "Now, what in the world did I get myself into?" LOL!

But that's part of the beauty of this journey.

I'm not waiting for everything to be perfect anymore.

I'm choosing to start, grow, and build along the way.

Onyxx Cuisine represents more than entrepreneurship for me. It represents freedom, creativity, growth, and the opportunity to create a life centered around something I genuinely love.

Pull Up a Chair. There's Room at My Table!

This blog is my opportunity to bring you along for the ride.

We'll explore recipes, comfort food with a nourishing twist, culinary traditions, cooking techniques, travel-inspired flavors, and a little bit of everything happening behind the scenes as I build Onyxx Cuisine.

I'll share what I'm learning, what I'm cooking, where I'm finding inspiration, and how this dream continues to evolve.

Some days we'll be creating something elegant. Other days, we're making a big pot of something comforting and delicious.

And sometimes? We're just going to laugh and figure it out together!

I want this to be a place where food feels approachable, culture is celebrated, curiosity is encouraged, and everyone feels welcome.

So whether you're here for the recipes, the inspiration, the culinary experiences, or just to see what I'm cooking up next...

Welcome to my table. Welcome to my journey. Welcome to Onyxx Cuisine!

This dream has been waiting for me for a long time.

And now?

I'm finally diving in.

With love, flavor, and a little finesse,

Chef Imani Nefertitti Onyxx Armstrong
